Ty Coed

The brief for Ty Coed house was to design and build a family home with a healthy living environment and excellent levels of energy efficiency. To achieve this the house was designed and built using Passive House principles.

There are four bedrooms and an open-plan ground floor living with an integral garage. The layout is orientated to optimise passive solar gains and natural ventilation. It was designed for a double-stud timber frame system to achieve very high levels of airtightness and windtightness.

The house incorporates a Mechanical Heat Recovery and Ventilation system, underfloor heating, solar panels for hot water, a 5KW wood-burning stove, high levels of airtightness, and minimal thermal bridging with high levels of insulation.
